(Information for the 2014 - 2015 School Year)
Q. When will laptops be signed out to students?
- FPC and I3 - August 13th & 15th for 10th , 11th, & 12th graders -- 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm - Cafeteria
- FPC and I3 - August 14th -9th graders and all new students --5:30 pm to 8:30 pm - Cafeteria
- MHS - August 13th 8:00 am to 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm - room 5-121
- MHS - August 14th 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm - room 5-121
- ITMS - 8th graders on August 27th & 7th graders on 28th Both nights are from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm
- BTMS - 8th graders on August 27th & 7th graders on 28th Both nights are from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
- 5th and 6th grade iPad deployment dates for the 2014-2015 school year are yet to be determined.
Q. What is the Annual Liability Fee?
Each school year there will be a non-refundable fee per student. $25 for all "Take-Home Devices".
Q. What if I am unable to afford the Annual Liability Fee?
Parents that qualify for the National School Lunch Program will be eligible for a reduced Liability Fee of $10 for free lunch and $15 for reduced lunch. To apply for the National School Lunch Program, click on this link.
Q. Does a parent have to be present to pick up the device.
Parents of the following students must be present:
- I3 students
- High School students who are new to the 1:1 program
- Middle School students
- 5th and 6th grade students
Parents of high school students who participated in the program last year do not have to attend again.
Q. I am a parent and do not get off of work until 6:00pm, do we have to be present the entire time?
Parents and students can get in line at any time during the deployment night. Once your deployment process is complete, you are free to leave.
Q. Do students have to be there to pick up the laptops or can parents just go?
Students do not have to attend but parents cannot take the laptop home. Students will need to sign the paperwork and pick up the laptop from the media center the following day.
Q. When can I fill out the required forms?
The required forms are available online. Parents are encouraged to print and bring the forms with them to save time. The required forms will also be available at the scheduled deployment nights.
In addition, parents must bring a current driver's license or other photo ID and verification of current address.
Q. Is there a website where the required forms can be downloaded?
The required forms will be available on the District site www.FlaglerSchools.com/Digital-Learning following final approval by the School Board.
Q. Where is the Digital Learning Movement Handbook signature page that is required to be turned in?
The Equipment Loan Form as well as the Opt-Out Form serve as agreement to the terms of the Digital Learning Handbook.
Q. It says a parent can opt out of the program. How do they do that? And what happens if they do?
If a parent does not want to allow their student to participate, the Equipment Take Home Opt-Out Form must be completed. It is available on the Digital Learning website. www.FlaglerSchools.com/Digital-Learning
If a student Opts-Out they will pick up a laptop before school and be required to turn it back in at the end of the school day before leaving the campus.
Q. Can the forms be submitted early?
No, The completed forms must be brought to one of the scheduled deployment nights.
Q. What is included with the Macbook or iPad?
The Macbook or iPad will come with a power cord as well as a case.
Q. If my child already has their own personal device, do they need this one also?
Yes, the District supplied device will still be needed. Some of the required classroom software will only be available on the supplied device.
Q. I have heard parents can purchase the laptops after a student graduates, is this true?
The new MacBook Airs will not be available for students or parents to purchase, but the School Board has discussed selling older surplussed laptops to graduating Seniors. To date this has only been in discussion but stay tuned to the School Board's website for any updates on this topic.
Q. What will the Liability Fee cover?
The fees collected will be used as part of the laptop repair and replacement program.
Q. What forms of payment do you accept for payment of the Liability Fee?
We can accept payment by Pay Pams, Credit Card, Debit Card, Check, and Cash. Please make checks payable to Flagler County School Board (FCSB).
Q. Can I pay the Liability Fee in advanced?
You may choose to pay the Liability Fee by using Pay Pams ahead of time and printing out and bringing the confirmation page when collecting your device.
Q. What if a parent does not want the laptop to come home?
There is an Opt-Out form, but parents are encouraged to try it first. Many students will respect the laptop or tablet and accept the responsibility.
Q. Will students be required to bring the laptop to class everyday?
Students must bring their device to all classes, everyday unless specifically instructed not to do so by their teacher.
Q. What if my child forgets to bring their laptop to school.
Students are expected to bring their fully charged laptops to school everyday. A limited number of laptops may be available for checkout for the day.
Q. What if my child forgets to charge the battery?
A limited number of power outlets will be available in some classrooms.
Q. Will my child be issued the same laptop next year?
Yes. The District will make every attempt to issue the student the same laptop each year.
Q. Where are the terms and conditions for the electronic device located?
The terms and conditions for the devices are located in the Digital Leaning Handbook, located on the Digital Leaning website. www.FlaglerSchools.com/Digital-Learning
Q. How will Flagler Schools prevent access to inappropriate websites?
The laptops will include Internet content filtering software, which will limit access to inappropriate content, but there is no substitute for parental supervision when using a device to access the Internet.
Q. Will the parental control software be adjustable by the parents? If not may we add your own?
The Internet filtering software will not be adjustable by parents. It is controlled by a server at the District Office. We are however working on a solution that would allow some flexibility in the filtering solution while the student is not on a school campus.
Additional filtering software will not be able to be installed on the District laptops, but we are working to allow students to request additional approved software to be installed on the laptops.
Q. Can I use the issued computer for things not related to school?
It is expected that use of the supplied device be directly related to the assigned student’s education. The Digital Learning Handbook contains additional information related to appropriate use.
Q. Can students load software on the laptop?
Students have access to "Self Service" which provides the ability to add district pre-approved applications on a limited basis.
Q. What happens if the laptop is stolen?
A police report must be filed by the student or parent within 48 hours of the incident. The police report must be brought to the school principal by the next school day. If the police report is not delivered to school principal the parent will be responsible for the full replacement cost.
